Arrest Warrant Issued for Kantipur Publications President Over Citizenship Misuse Allegations

Arrest Warrant Issued Against Kantipur Publications President Kailash Sirohia

Dhanusha District Court has issued an arrest warrant against Kailash Sirohia, the president of Kantipur Publications, one of Nepal's leading media houses.

Information Officer Dambar Prasad Ghimire confirmed that the arrest warrant was issued following a complaint accusing Sirohia of misusing his Nepali citizenship.

The complaint was filed at the District Police Office on April 6th, 2024 (Baisakh 16, 2081), alleging that Sirohia is not a Nepali citizen but has been misusing citizenship documents.

After the police complaint, Sirohia had filed a writ of prohibition at the Supreme Court, seeking to prevent his potential arrest. During the hearing, the Supreme Court had instructed the Home Ministry to investigate the allegations against Sirohia.

Kantipur Publications is a prominent media company that runs several popular newspapers and digital platforms in Nepal, including Kantipur national daily. Sirohia has been leading the company for over two decades.

Sirohia and his legal team could not be immediately reached for comment on the arrest warrant. It remains unclear if he plans to surrender to authorities or challenge the warrant in court.
