Non-Resident Nepali Jit Ranabhat becomes mayor of Greenwich

Jit Ranabhat, a non-resident Nepali, has been elected mayor of the Royal Borough of Greenwich in London, United Kingdom. Ranabhat took the oath of office during a special ceremony on Wednesday, marking the start of his one-year mayoral tenure.

The newly minted mayor's journey is an inspiring one. Born in Thumko Danda, Madi Rural Municipality, Kaski district of Nepal, Ranabhat came to the UK in 2008 on a highly skilled worker visa. His rise through local politics has been meteoric – last year, he was elected as a councilor for the same borough on the Labour Party ticket.

Ranabhat's swearing-in ceremony was a momentous occasion, attended by Nepalese Ambassador to Britain Gyan Chandra Acharya, representatives of the British royal family, high-ranking local officials, and representatives from various organizations.

Ranabhat now takes on the responsibility of serving the diverse constituents of the Royal Borough of Greenwich for the next year.
