Nepali leg-spinner Sandeep Lamichhane is set to join the national cricket team for the ongoing Cricket World Cup 2024 matches in the West Indies.

Paras Khadka, Secretary of the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN), confirmed that Lamichhane will be included in the squad and play the remaining World Cup matches against South Africa and Bangladesh in the Caribbean.

Lamichhane has already reached the West Indies after being denied a visa to travel to the United States, where Nepal played their opening match against the Netherlands in Dallas last week. The 23-year-old will replace Pratish Jisi in the national squad.

"Lamichhane will play the West Indies matches in coordination with the ICC (International Cricket Council)," Khadka stated.

The Cricket World Cup 2024 is being co-hosted by the USA and West Indies this year. While other Nepali players were able to travel to America, Lamichhane faced visa issues, restricting his participation in the early matches.

Nepal will take on Sri Lanka in their second group stage match in New York on Wednesday before heading to the West Indies for the remaining two games against South Africa and Bangladesh.

Lamichhane's inclusion is expected to bolster Nepal's spin attack as they aim to progress from the group stage of cricket's premier tournament.
